Es Goyobod : The Fresh Taste of Bandung

Bandung the culinary paradise, offers you lots of exquisite delicacies from Sundanese land. One distinct character from Bandung’s culinary is its unique name. Take this one for an example. The name is Es Goyobod, what will you think about that? Well, Es Goyobod may have an unusual name, but it has a certain flavor, mainly sweet and guarantees will freshen up your hot sunny day. In Bandung, Es Goyobod has a lot of avid fans. You may find it in various places and occasions, from Sundanese restaurants, street hawkers to wedding parties. In this Ramadhan or fasting month, Es Goyobod becomes such a huge hit because its freshness sounds perfect for Iftar time.

Es goyobod is another version of es campur, a dessert with a mix for certain ingredients. The term goyobod comes from one of the elements filling the dessert. Goyobod looks like jelly, made from hunkue flour, it has a quite chewy textures. Es Goyobod are made of a mix between goyobod, coconut, avocado, pacar cina (a kind of chewy dishes which looks like colorful pearls), jackfruit, kolang kaling (chewy oval-shaped fruit), bread slices and peuyeum (Bandung’s fermented cassava). All of them combined with sugar palm sauce and shaved ice, will bring you another wonderful and tasty experience.

One of famous street hawkers selling es goyobod, could be found in Kliningan Street, Buah Batu area. Even it is only a simple cart, the seller is serving customers non-stop. It only operates during weekdays, but lots of people constantly coming, mostly students and office workers. The price is very cheap too. You can enjoy this yummy dessert with only Rp. 2.500.

Another place serving a yummy es goyobod is located behind the famous shopping area, Pasar Baru. It is around since 1949 and the popularity remains on top, even the modern desserts have arrived in Bandung. Pasar Baru’s es goyobod is a bit different than the one on Kliningan Street. It has fewer elements inside, but the soft coconut and chewy goyobod, made the dessert taste so special and always attract more and more customers to enjoy it. A glass of es goyobod Pasar Baru can be yours with only Rp. 8.000.
