Science is Fun at Puspa IPTEK

Bandung,review,Bandungreview

Did you know that before modern watches exist, people could tell time from shadows ? The shadows of things (after exposed by sunlight or moonlight) were marked on a wall and this mark suggested the pattern of movements of the sun. These are the basic concepts of a sundial.

If you were wondering, what on earth is a sundial look like? You don’t have to make a long journey or search it in ancient archeological sites, because Bandung has it for you. Located in Kota Baru Parahyangan (not far from Padalarang gate of Padaleunyi toll road), you will meet the biggest sundial in the country, as recorded in Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI). It is placed on the rooftop of a science museum, called Pusat Peraga Ilmu Pengetahuan dan Teknologi (Puspa IPTEK). The sundial has a unique shape with 50-meter granom (hour hand) and 15-meter height above the ground.

Beside the famous sundial, you may find lots of fun science models featured inside the museum. All of them will open our eyes, science is so fun and it is not just about boring formulas and theories. We could learn a lot about physics, chemistry and biology from them. Dancing water coming from a basin, suspension bike to test your balance, a learning media about the physics of sound from “bangosong”, human electro-meter, concentration test on a chair full of nails and well of gravitation are some of interesting features, between 120 of science models available in Puspa IPTEK. You may also take a look on the science virtual museum made by the famous informatics company, IBM. It is called the IBM Tryscience. Unlike the usual museums, which only allow visitor to watch and take notes, Puspa IPTEK encourages its visitors to try out these science models. They want the visitors to experience the magic of science by themselves. Guidance from the museum personnel and written instructions are ready to help you, if you got into troubles with the models.

Puspa IPTEK is available for public on weekends, from 10 am to 4 pm and weekdays is open for educational visits only. You can enjoy the fun science adventure with a very affordable ticket. Adults are charged for Rp. 8.000 and kids for Rp. 7.000. So, ready to have fun go mad, Einstein style? Hop on and let’s ride to Puspa IPTEK! (TC/RA)
