Bandung,review,Bandungreview

Buying Bandung snacks as souvenirs definitely is a must when you are visiting Bandung. Among those snacks, let’s meet one of the hypes, it is molen banana (or pisang molen in Indonesian), which next we just called it molen. Derived from the word, “bulen”, which means wrapped with something, molen serves you the wonderful journey of banana inside layers. But, wait.. In Bandung, when you talk about molen, actually there are two kinds of it; each one has their own uniqueness. If you are wondering, which molen is the perfect choice for you, just answer this simple quiz first.

1. In the Tom and Jerry cartoon, my heart goes to :
     a. Jerry
     b. Tom
2. My favorite work out :
     a. Jogging in the park or ride a bike
     b. Gym or yoga
3. On weekends, usually I :
     a. Pampering myself at home
     b. Hang out at the most hip places with my buddies
4. For a quick dinner, I will prepare :
     a. Fresh and simple dishes, like fried rice or stir-fries
     b. TV dinners or simply call the delivery guy
5. If I won a huge lottery, I will mostly :
     a. Save it
     b. Take a cruise around the world

MolenIf your answers are dominantly A, then the traditional molen is your soul mate. You like cute things, just like its shape and it is easy to bring it anywhere. You also love outdoor activities, so you would not mind getting this molen in street vendors on the side of the road. Because you prefer being in relaxing surroundings, you pick dishes that are fresh from the oven. Our little friend here is better to be served right after it is being fried. Heat it again after some time will ruin its yummy taste. And finally, since you are a money saver, affordable price is essential for you. The traditional molen which only cost you not more than Rp. 1.000 per pieces, absolutely match the criteria.

MolenBut, if your answers are mostly B, the crown goes to the pastry molen. For you, size does matter. Pastry molen is buff, enough to give you a full tummy because of its thick layers. Beside bananas, there are also other fillings inside of it, like cheese and chocolate. You want to get the molen in comfortable places, like well-known stores or bakeries, since you are more into indoors than outdoors. You are also such an active person, having tons of activities and sometimes skipping your meal time. Therefore, you need snacks that are still keeping their delicacy; even it is cold or after you hit the microwave to heat it. The pastry molen fit to all those points and ready to follow your hectic routines. You will not have problems about its cost; even it is higher than the little molen. A small box of pastry molen (contains 5 to 6 pieces of it) with the price ranging from Rp. 15.000 to Rp. 25.000 doesn’t bother you at all, since you are a spendthrift anyway.

Well, you know what to do now? Grab your new tummy-mate and may your bonds be eternal forever. (RA)
