As the rain finally stop pouring the mother earth, with the natural sweet smell of the wet grounds and the cool breeze blowing our minds, a bunch of bikes were hanging out in front of ITB gates, 10th Ganesha Street. They are riders, coming from various ‘genres’, parking their bikes along with friendly chit chats coloring the wonderful afternoon. Finally, they ready to start the special event. It is a pre-event of a great agenda which will be held on 10th of October 2010, named Pasar Seni ITB. The pre-event itself is the Pasar Seni ITB Parade, held on Friday (10/1) and started on 3 PM. All ITB society were involved in the parade, while introducing the “bike-for-life” tagline and promoting the Pasar Seni ITB to Bandung people.
Firstly, we met the art students of FSRD ITB, wearing colorful outfits of pink and white, opening the parade with amazing art performances. Blitz lights were blazing here and there, following the media and common people which were taking pictures of these great moments. Such euphoria flew into the air, surrounding the Ganesha Street. The merry continued as the parade started, the costumed students were making another performance. They showed unique moves, representing the letters of PASAR SENI, with a “SAMPURASUN 10.10.10” banner became their background. Percussion melodies were playing as backsounds, made of recycled jerry cans.
Riders then took the stage. Community groups of antique bikes, fixed gears, folding bikes and polygons put their pedal to the metal, riding along from Ganesha Street to Dago Street, Cikapayang and then back to Ganesha Street. We should give them a credit since they managed to keep the smooth traffic along the routes, even they stroll across protocol roads.
It was another event which basically featured the main concept of Pasar Seni ITB. The theme is reminding the lost ones. What we have lost are beautiful things that color Bandung’s life before and starting to fade or even already disappeared because of the modernization. As the participants leaving the event, BRDC also felt something has been taken away. We just lost a happy Friday moment, but the good memories of Pasar Seni ITB Parade always have their special place in our minds and hearts. (CS)
